Should we drop the ‘C’ from CTI?

Should we be thinking about more than just cyber security? While cyber threats remain critical, the modern threat landscape is far broader with organisations facing multiple interconnected threats that go beyond the digital domain, including geopolitical risks, physical security threats and financial crime. Should we converge these disciplines into one Threat Intelligence function?

The broad threat landscape means organisations need to be aware of geopolitical risks, physical threats and fraud and financial crime as well as cyber security threats. While organisations may have teams that look at all of these areas, these functions are traditionally siloed. But they all collect data, analyse patterns, forecast risks and recommend actions and are essentially carrying out threat intelligence.

This talk will discuss what cyber threat intelligence is, its benefits to the whole business, and look at the pros and cons of combining CTI with other forms of intelligence to create one Threat Intelligence function.

After taking a 10 year career break to raise my children I needed to decide how to return to work and in what field. A news report about cyber security peaked my interest and I spent several years retraining and trying to enter the field of cyber security. My first role was as a Junior Threat Hunter which I thoroughly enjoyed but I grew an interest in Threat Intelligence and took the opportunity to move into this field where I am currently working as a Senior Threat Intelligence analyst.
